Policies

  2023-2024 SDC Policy Sheet

By registering with SDC, you adhere to our policies.

   Attendance

Regular attendance is important for a dancer’s success. If you are unable to attend a class, please inform the studio. Missed classes are non-refundable. A dancer may attend a class with a similar curriculum for a make-up option.

 Ballet Class

All students in ballet classes (2nd Grade and up) must have pink tights and a black leotard. Hair must be up in a bun, for ballet class.

     Child Supervision

Students are not to enter the dance rooms until class starts. Please do not arrive more than 5 minutes early for class. Dancers do best in class without the distraction of parents/family/siblings. We love the kids and want them to get a great class. Class doors will close when class starts. Our lobby is not big enough to have all parents/families stay during every class.ALL students in 6th grade and under must be under adult supervision while in the lobby. We are not responsible for any child when they are not in the classroom. All trash should be picked up in the lobby. Chairs should not be moved.

     Class Etiquette

No gum chewing is allowed during class. Once a class has started, there are to be no interruptions to the dance room. Parents are not allowed in the dance rooms unless invited by the teacher. Dancers must bring all their shoes and water, into the dance room, at the start of class. All students should attempt to go to the bathroom before class starts. Please have younger dancers 6 and under, go the bathroom, before class.

      Class Placement

Please consult with the studio, before signing your child up for classes. We want each student to be in a class where they are challenged, but not frustrated. We believe dance is a positive experience and should be fun; we never want a student to be overwhelmed, or not challenged enough. We want each student to achieve their maximum potential. Dancers in 4th grade and up must be placed by SDC and their staff.

Our dedicated, loving, and professional studio is committed to placing dancers properly. All students are unique and have different strengths, skills, and abilities. No two dancers progress at the same rate.

Each dancer progresses at a different rate, therefore, it is almost impossible, to keep the same group of dancers continually dancing together. Some students might need to move at a slower pace, to help them understand, and master steps. Each student has their own skills to really focus on. Examples: alignment, musicality, strength, flexibility, technique, artistry, attention span, dedication, performance, knowledge of vocabulary, ability to reverse steps right to left, memory, ability to pick up and learn combos and routines.

If a dancer, dances more often and in more styles, they will improve at a faster rate. If a dancer takes each summer off, it will slow down their rate of progression.

Our professional, well-trained staff can help place each dancer where they will benefit the most. Our trained eyes often see beyond what the parent/dancer can see. Your dancer’s progression and ability to achieve their best is our top goal.

We will have age-based, not level-based classes, for older dancers, who want to dance for fun, exercise, and socializing. The age-based classes are shorter, require no technical commitment, and are great for recreational dancers. SDC has classes for all dancers!
